East Coast Full-Day Tours in Tahiti

In Tahitian, the original name is Anahoho, which means, “The cave that howls.” That describes the Arahoho Blow Hole pretty accurately. Naturally born on the East coast, ocean water fills an underwater cavern, then bursts out in an incredible swirl of sound, mist, and air pressure. The whole sight makes it look like the island’s breathing. It’s a memorable site and a favorite for us to show visitors on an East Coast tour.

Stand on a beautiful beach looking out toward the oceans to the North, covered in distinct black sand. The Bay of Matavai is both a place of great beauty and momentous history, as it’s where early European explorers first arrived and made contact with native Tahitians. Learn how the Bay is connected to changes in the island’s history, but also enjoy the pristine view. Perfect photo moment!

In the hillsides overlooking Matavai Bay, we’ll bring you to Tahara’a Belvedere. There, you’ll get to see a perfect panoramic view of the island coastline surrounded by Matavai Bay. It’s a really nice spot to hang out and relax, enjoy the scenery, and maybe even snap a few photos.

Past the Tahara’a Belvedere Viewpoint, we may visit another spot with an excellent view of the deep blue, Point Venus. It features lovely black-sand beaches, a historic lighthouse, and a number of monuments commemorating the Point’s significance in European exploration. It also has spacious and verdant green spaces where visitors can enjoy a nice stroll or a picnic.

Up through the Tiare Valley, directly from the Arahoho Blow Hole, the Vaimahuta Waterfall is one of the largest and easiest to access waterfalls on the island. Dropping from over 200 feet above, the valley waterfall is one of the most splendid and popular sites to see on the island. Plus, as you head further into the tropical forests, you also get to enjoy the vast greenery and cool mountain air.

Plunging down emerald cliffs in Faaone, the spectacular twin waterfalls of Cascade de Vaihi hide a sacred secret. Local legend tells of the Puna Ature, a mystical stone talisman concealed within the cascading waters. Blessed by valley spirits, it holds the power to guide schools of fish to the shore, making this breathtaking sanctuary a timeless symbol of abundance and ancient Polynesian magic.

At the easternmost edge of Tahiti Iti (“Small Tahiti”), Tautira is a breathtaking sanctuary where dramatic nature and deep Polynesian heritage converge. Known as the “end of the road,” this tranquil village is framed by the towering, emerald-green peaks of the Vaitepiha Valley and bordered by striking black-sand beaches.

Steeped in history, Tautira was once a vital seat of ancient Tahitian royalty and a legendary training ground for master navigators. It even captivated Captain James Cook, who anchored in its pristine bay. Today, it remains a vibrant cultural touchstone, offering a rare glimpse into Tahiti’s untouched soul.

Tucked away in Mahina lies a peaceful valley holding one of Tahiti’s most poignant histories. Established in 1914 as an isolation village for residents suffering from leprosy, this secluded community triumphed over exile. Instead of giving in to despair, the inhabitants built a self-sustaining village. Here we can feed the eels and visit the home of one of the local tiki sculptors working to produce wooden statues for the hotels, boutiques, and private homes of residence.
