The local Rurutu dance troupe and incredible musicians brought the house down.

Every January in Rurutu they celebrate the New year by each of the three communities ringing out their strongest men and women to lift huge heavy stones as a show of strength . Back in the day it was done on horse back - now the island tour is done in cars with a lot of music and even more alcohol!!🍺

On the sandy main street of Rotoava, this little Catholic church keeps quiet watch over the lagoon. Built with coral stone and trimmed in ocean blues, it’s a peaceful pause between palms and trade winds. Sat in the shade, heard soft hymns in Pa’umotu and French, and felt time slow to island pace. Māuruuru, Fakarava, for the stillness.
